After more than a year, life has returned to the former hardware store building in the YLP Plaza. It’s projected to reopen next month as a combination dollar store-hardware-and mailing center with FedEx services and mailbox rentals.

Jesse Singh, whose face is familiar to many who stop at the Valero gas station-market in the plaza, said he will manage the new venture.

“it’s like a dollar-plus store, and a basic hardware…and FedEx store (with) rental mailboxes. Maybe in the future we’ll get a notary public.” It will be independent, and not part of a chain store operation.

The mailboxes for U.S. Postal Service mail will be available for rent, and they will be different sizes, he said. He said he would have more details after he undergoes some training next week.

The dollar-store area will include housewares, “like party ware, some groceries, canned stuff.” He’ll have some basic hardware items but will stock based on customers’ wants and needs.

Singh of Fresno has worked in the Valero station full-time for four years.

A lot of renovation has gone into the former YLP True Value building, both inside and out, Singh said. “There’s a new floor, everything, it looks like a new store.”

He expects the new store, which he is leasing, will open in the first or second week of October.
